Scotland and the Isle of Skye (2023)
Tale of the Highlands
Traveling through mainland Scotland and the Isle of Skye, we crafted a blueprint for inner freedom, independent of external circumstances, and I captured the landscapes and the new states of being in my paintings.
The Route
175 х 200см | acrylics on raw canvas
We used this raw canvas as a drop cloth to protect the pristine Scottish landscapes from acrylics. It is an imprint of our journey through Scotland, entirely accidental and containing a bit of each painting I made on this trip. It traces our route and creates a sort of map. I leave it to each viewer to interpret what world - imaginary or real - this map describes.
Rain Song
100 х 150см | acrylics on raw canvas
Rain Song was made on the Cuillin Ridge as the weather shifted rapidly across the Isle of Skye, folding rain, mist and light into a single, unstable field. The painting registers this moment as a physical encounter: pigment moves like weather itself, carried by duration, gesture and rain. Working directly within the landscape, the painting became a record of observing, waiting and responding: an act of attention shaped by change. Rain Song holds the memory of place as lived time, not as image, remaining open and unfinished, like the weather that formed it.
Steall
75 х 100см | acrylics on raw canvas
We stayed in Glen Nevis and pitched our tents right beside Steall Waterfall - a powerful, narrow cascade dropping straight from the mountain into the valley, with a constant roar and fine mist hanging in the air.
Early in the morning, before anyone arrived, I painted the raw freshness of the waterfall standing directly beneath it, feeling the spray on my skin, translating the force, humidity, and vertigo of that moment into paint.
River of Life
27 х 42 см | acrylics on paper
River of Life was made in direct response to fast-moving water cutting through the narrow gorge of Finnich Glen. The painting captures immediacy and speed: pigment moving quickly across the surface in parallel with the current below. Colour and line follow the pull of the stream, registering motion before it can be analysed or controlled.
River of Life reflects an instinctive, embodied process, where painting becomes a way of keeping pace with the landscape itself. It holds the sensation of water in motion, suspended between observation and action.
Quest Culmination
100 x 150 cm | acrylics on raw canvas
Growing up, I was captivated by the classic fantasy tale 'The Lord of the Rings,' which embodied the concept of a quest and an epic external battle between good and evil. In my life, this story has been expressed through my quest to paint the most beautiful landscapes around the world and in pursuing my passion for being a professional artist.
